Drumoak Pupils learn about new build house construction at a visit to Oaklands, Banchory.

Twenty-one school children from Drumoak Primary school visited Bancon Homes ‘development, Oaklands in Banchory this week, donning hi-visibility jackets and hard hats to learn about how construction sites operate and what building a new home entails.

The children, aged between six and seven have been working on a school project about Houses and Homes and once kitted out in all the appropriate safety clothing, they were shown the construction site and then also created a series of fun drawings about their visit back at the development Sales Centre.

Rebecca Hutcheon, the children’s teacher, said: “Building sites are fascinating places for everyone – especially young people - so we are very grateful to Bancon Homes for allowing the children to see what happens on site at Oaklands. This is a great way for the children to learn about the construction process and fits in perfectly with our project on houses and homes where we have been learning about all types of housing. They got to see SAFELY what goes on behind the scenes when new homes are being built. It was a fabulous experience for them.”

Bancon Homes’ Technical and Construction Director Jamie Tosh, who impressed the children with a tour of the site said: “We were delighted to be able to show the children around our development at Oaklands. We are always very keen to support the local communities in which we have our sites, such as Oaklands and the Drumoak Primary school visit provided the children with a great opportunity to learn more about the different aspects of construction for their school project as well as hopefully inspiring them for the future.”
