City Pupils visit the home they named The Fernielea

Aberdeen school pupils who won a competition to name a Bancon Homes house type have visited the finished property, which was named in honour of their school.

Primary 6 pupils Rebbeckah and Aaron both suggested Fernielea after their school, Fernielea Primary. They were invited to visit Bancon Homes new development at The Roses at Eden for a VIP preview of the first three-bed Fernielea house type to be finished and ready for its new owners.

Bancon Homes’ operations director Jamie Tosh gave Aaron and Rebbeckah a tour of the development, which is close to Dobbies garden centre off the A944 Aberdeen to Kingswells road.

The children’s class was given the opportunity to name a new house style after visiting Bancon Homes’ nearby developments last year. The visit consisted of a tour of the houses and adjacent nature reserve as part of a lesson about construction and design, and the youngsters were able to find out what materials are used to build a new home and how they are constructed.  In addition to learning about the industry, the tour highlighted a safe route to school through the Den of Maidencraig, which was developed by Bancon Homes.

Competition winner Aaron opted for Fernielea as he liked the connection to his school, while Rebbeckah said: “I chose Fernielea because it was great fun when we went to visit.” As well as the chance to visit the development, the youngsters also won an Amazon voucher.

Phase one of the development features 40 homes, ranging from high specification two-bed terrace properties to four-bed detached villas, set in landscaped surroundings to the west of Aberdeen and an easy commute from the newly opened Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route (AWPR).
